Are you well-established in your field and
earning a good income? Are you respected and sought-after as an expert?
If you answered ‘yes’ to either of those
questions, does that mean that you have “arrived”?
I don’t mean to disappoint you, but the
answer is ‘no’—you have not arrived, no matter how successful you are.
Whatever it took to get you to the point
you’re at, it will not be sufficient to keep you there. No one ever arrives. You’re
either improving your position or you are sliding backwards.
Think about it…
How often have we watched successful people
fall from grace after reaching the pinnacle of their career?
They put in years or decades of hard work
only to be forced out or replaced by someone with new skills or more knowledge.
Even major corporations, some of which were
considered institutions, have literally disappeared because of their mistaken
belief that they had arrived.
Have you ever heard the statement that all
people want to grow, but not everyone wants to make the necessary changes to
grow? These individuals fail to recognize the most permanent of all laws; that
is, change.
I am not speaking here of change for change
sake, but rather, change for the sake of growth. It matters not how much we
change, provided we are changing, improving, growing.
If you have a vision, if you want more money,
if you want more freedom … you need to keep pursuing, keep on doing and looking
for new and better ways to grow and expand beyond the position you have
reached. This is particularly important in this day and age with everything
changing so fast.
I’m not just suggesting that you do
this; I do it myself. I study every day. And when I pick up a book, I don’t do
it just to read for enjoyment; I read to expand my mind. I read to get an idea
that’s going to help me reach my current goal.
You see, I write my goal on a card that I
keep with me all the time. I take the card out, I place it in front of me, and
then I start to read. I’m looking for an idea that’s going to expand my mind
and help me reach my goal faster.
I do plenty of things like that to help me
succeed as quickly as possible. I’ve been doing them for so long, they are
second nature to me now.
Listen, success really is simple, but there
are many facets to it. You need to be aware of those factors and maintain
positive motion in your personal, family and business lives.
You can take steps today to get on or stay on
track in attaining success in your life. Start by asking yourself deep,
penetrating questions as a constant check-up.
The answers will always come when you have a
persistent stream of provoking questions. Be prepared and willing to make
whatever productive changes are required.
